If it seems like the dust has just settled on awards season, that’s because it has.
But as Christmas approaches, one of the busiest schedules on the showbiz calendar is set to return, starting with the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards on January 7.
And with nominations in 27 categories announced Monday afternoon, Ariana Grande was among the first names out of the hat after earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for her role in the fantasy blockbuster Wicked.
The versatile star will compete alongside her friend Selena Gomez for her role in Emilia Perez and Margaret Qualley, who earned universally positive reviews for body shock horror The Substance.
Isabella Rossellini also appears for her role in Cóncavo, as does Zoe Saldana, again for Emilia Pérez.
Elsewhere, Demi Moore has been recognized for her starring role opposite Qualley in The Substance, which earned her a nomination for Best Female Actress – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy.

Also appearing is Grande’s Wicked co-star Cynthia Arivo, who has been widely rewarded for her role as green-skinned Elphaba.
They’ll face tough competition in one of the ceremony’s biggest categories, with Zendaya also named to Challengers alongside Amy Adams for Nightbitch, Mikey Madison for Añora and Karla Sofia Gascon for Emilia Pérez.
British star Eddie Redmayne was also among the early contenders after being named in the Best Television Actor in a Drama Series category for his starring role in the Netflix hit The Day Of The Jackal.
The actor faces stiff competition from Jake Gyllenhaal for Presumed Innocent, while Donald Glover also earns a nomination for his role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
There’s another British face on the list, with Gary Oldman’s starring role in the Disney+ series Slow Horses earning him a well-deserved nomination, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Billy Bob Thornton earn their respective nominations for Shōgun and Landman.
Netflix’s British drama Baby Reindeer has also been recognized, with the Richard Gadd-written show in the Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Movie category and its lead actress Jessica Gunning named Best Supporting Actress – Television.
The show will compete alongside the wildly popular Ripley, the controversial biopic Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, True Detective: Night Country, Ripley and The Penguin.
Elsewhere, Jon M. Chu and Ridley Scott were surprise omissions from the Best Director – Picture category, even though respective blockbusters Wicked and Gladiator II enjoyed enormous box office success.
