This is the moment brave passengers fought off a father who was trying to hijack a plane.

The shocking incident took place yesterday during a Volaris Airlines flight from El Bajío, in central Mexico.

Its intended destination was Tijuana, however, the would-be hijacker, supposedly named Mario, wanted to divert the plane to nearby San Diego.

A witness claimed the commotion began after he grabbed a flight attendant and grabbed the plane’s door handle.

The 31-year-old then allegedly threatened to jump off the plane to his death, taking the staff member with him.

After a passenger intervened, crew members helped detain the man, who was traveling with his wife and children.

The chaos forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Guadalajara, where the suspect was removed and taken into custody.

A Volaris spokesperson said: ‘On flight 3041, which covered the route from El Bajío to Tijuana, a passenger attempted, through the use of force, to divert the plane to the United States.’

‘The crew acted in accordance with established safety procedures and, according to protocol, the plane was diverted to Guadalajara airport.

‘When the airline places the passenger at the disposal and custody of the competent authorities.

‘Volaris has become a prosecuting party to ensure that it faces the full weight of the law, to its ultimate consequences.

‘All passengers, crew and plane are safe.

‘The rest of the passengers were protected to continue their flight to the final destination.

‘Volaris regrets the inconvenience caused by this situation.

‘For Volaris, the safety of our passengers and crew is the top priority.’
