Brittany Higgins and David Sharaz were forced to reduce the asking price of their French villa by $85,000 just days after celebrating their 30th birthdays.

The couple, who married in a lavish ceremony on the Gold Coast in June, reduced the cost of the three-bedroom abode from $682,000 to $596,500.

The sprawling property, located in Lunas in the historic Dordogne region of southern France, was first listed in September.

The couple reportedly hope to move the taxpayer-funded castle before returning to Australia ahead of the birth of their first child, a baby boy.

The house was purchased in December 2023 after Ms Higgins received $2.4 million in compensation after suing the Commonwealth.

Higgins was awarded the payout based on claims that her political career was in ruins following her rape in Parliament in 2019.

The couple paid approximately $600,000 for the villa after packing up and moving to France in a bid to start a new life following intense scrutiny in Australia.

The three-bedroom house has two bathrooms, a garage and cellar and large traditional windows that overlook the estate grounds.

The house features several 19th-century-style furnishings, including a marble bust, wooden sculptures, demure portraits, and decorative antlers.

Chesterfield sofas, vases, lamps and side tables are also among the decorative elements that complete the elegant interiors of this luxury villa.

A swimming pool and small lake are also located just outside the property, located in the close-knit community that is home to less than 600 people.

The house is sold by the real estate Agency Eleanor partially furnished, the Daily Telegraph information.

In July it was revealed that the couple would be forced to sell the house to fund their ongoing defamation battle with Higgins’ former boss Linda Reynolds.

Their dream European getaway was cut short after the former defense minister took legal action over social media posts she says the couple made that damaged her reputation.

The latest hurdle comes after Higgins celebrated her 30th birthday with her husband in a winter wonderland-style celebration.

The mom-to-be shared a photo holding a red rose while it was snowing outside and a video of Mr. Sharaz happily throwing snowballs.

The couple announced in July that Ms Higgins is pregnant, a month after getting married in Queensland.

Higgins won his defamation battle against former MP Bruce Lehrmann in the Federal Court in April.

Judge Michael Lee ruled that Lerhmann had raped Ms Higgins on the balance of probabilities, the civil standard of proof.

Lehrmann will appeal his conviction after the Federal Court ruled that he would not have to post $200,000 bail in order to appeal.
