Maggie Beer has shared an update on her emotional health, four months after she was rushed to hospital following a terrifying fall at her Barossa Valley home.
The famous chef, 79, revealed heartbreaking details of her long, slow recovery during a chat with The Australian.
Beer said he has had to be patient as his process of getting back to the way he was before has been a long process.
“When I first came home, I would stay up for an hour and go back to bed for another hour,” she said.
“Yesterday I was awake all day without rest; that’s a big step forward.”
However, Beer explained that he has struggled to regain his appetite after the injury and his stay in the hospital.

“I learned what it was like to be tube fed and then I desperately wanted to make that transition to real food, but I didn’t want to eat anything,” she said.
“I learned that without the smell of food and the visual excitement of small plates, nothing was going to make my appetite return.”
She also paid tribute to her husband, Colin, who has been by her side during this difficult process.
“He says he knows I’m getting better because now I want to interfere,” he said.
In October, Maggie posted a video on Instagram revealing that she was slowly recovering and hoped to be back to normal soon.
“I have been so grateful and overwhelmed by the support I have received from the entire community, across Australia, and from friends and family,” Maggie began.
“I’ve come a long way, but I underestimated the severity of the injuries, so although I want to tell you how good I feel now, I still have a way to go.”
Maggie then thanked her fans and said their continued support and well wishes were helping her through this difficult time.

In August, Maggie was rushed to the hospital after A fall at her South Australian home left her with broken bones and bruises.
A family member took to Instagram to update fans on the esteemed chef’s progress.
The beloved assured her followers that the foodie and restaurateur author was in the best possible medical hands and will likely make a full recovery.
No timeframe has been given for Maggie’s recovery, as family members explain it will be based on daily advice from her doctors.
Maggie is a celebrity chef, author and restaurateur who was awarded the Order of Australia in 2012 for her contributions to the food and tourism industry.
She is best known as one of the judges on The Great Australian Bake Off alongside Matt Moran, until she left in 2022.
Maggie also co-hosted the ABC television cooking show The Cook and The Chef with Simon Bryant and appeared as a guest on MasterChef Australia.
