Pro Football Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Randy Moss will step down from his role on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown to address a “personal health challenge.”
Moss previously addressed the issue on last week’s episode of the show, which previewed the day’s NFL action before games begin.
ESPN announced the decision on Moss’ behalf in a statement, adding: ‘Randy has been invaluable to the team and has consistently taken Countdown to the next level with his insight and passion. He has the full support of ESPN and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”
On last week’s episode, Moss started the show by discussing the issue, which many viewers were unaware of before his revelation. The week before, Moss’ eyes looked yellow, which worried some.
“I just want to share something with you,” Moss said at the start of the show, before putting on his sunglasses.
“I just want the viewers to know that me and my wife, me and my family, we’re struggling with something internally. I have some great doctors around me.

‘I couldn’t miss the show, I wanted to be here with you, I feel great. But if you guys see me with these Michigan turnover glasses I’m wearing, it’s not disrespectful.”
And in a video on Instagram, Moss said: “During the week of the holidays, your boy has been battling something internal.
“I only ask all prayer warriors to extend their blessings to me and my family during these difficult times.
‘Last week people asked about my eyes. If you see these on Sunday NFL Countdown (put on glasses), Adam Schefter calls them the Michigan turnover glasses they shipped from Ohio last night.
“Your boy will get through this. I have a great team of doctors and a wonderful family around me.
“You all do your checkups, get your blood work done, and we work through it.”
After he revealed what he was going through on air, fans expressed their support for him and offered prayers for his healing.
Moss is one of the greatest players in the history of football and is easily one of the best wide receivers to ever touch a football field.

Moss formed an effective tandem with Tom Brady in New England and nearly won a Super Bowl
After starting his career in Minnesota and then moving to Oakland, Moss arrived in New England in 2007.
That season he was part of one of the greatest teams in the history of the league. But they notoriously lost Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants.
Throughout his career, he led the NFL in receiving touchdowns five times, including in 2007 when he set the all-time record for touchdown catches in a season.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame in 2018, was named to the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team and the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
