- The art of Test cricket stumped Australians in Perth
- They will seek to recover in the Adelaide test
- A batter hopes for a double victory
Finding big numbers on the cricket field has been a big challenge for Australia’s Test batsman so far this summer, but at least one is on the verge of scoring big off the field.
Australia’s problems in the first Test against India have been well documented.
The top spot was decimated by Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah, leaving the Australian team waiting to count the cost of a 256-run drubbing in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Australians will look for some redemption in today’s second Test, a day/night match at Adelaide Oval.
But even though they haven’t filled out the scorecard, at least one of the hitters will come into the game knowing that they will soon enjoy a much healthier bank balance.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has put his Adelaide home up for sale ahead of his hometown Test, and it has already become the most viewed property in Australia this week.
Carey and his wife Eloise bought the 685 square meter property in Netherby in 2017 with the intention of renovating it, but instead listed it while the market was hot.
Alex Carey will be one of the many Australian batsmen looking for runs in the second Test against India.
Carey’s Adelaide property goes up for auction on the same day he plays for his country
It will be a complicated juggling act for the Australian Test star, who will have the auction in the morning and the second day of the Test match in the afternoon.
“The game starts in the afternoon…2 p.m. and the auction is that morning, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes,” Carey said.
“I guess I’ll go out into the field happy or unsure.”
“But I think it will attract a number of buyers, so I hope we do well… and we can celebrate a double victory.”
The home has been a labor of love by the couple and is expected to fetch a premium price when it goes on sale.
“We’ve done some small home maintenance projects before, when we lived in Panorama… but with this project we decided to start over, but keep the character of the area,” Carey said.
We put a nice bluestone façade on it and we love the high ceilings.
‘I’m also very proud of my lawn and even bought a nice lawnmower to cut it, so leaving it like that hurts me a little.
Carey and his wife Eloise bought the property in 2017 and have put a lot of work into it.
The Adelaide house has become the most viewed property in the country this week.
The auction will provide Carey and his wife with a bumper payday, while he hopes to increase his cricket currency on the same day.
“I also love my wine, so I made sure there was a nice wine room in there; that was a big need, as were all those inclusions. I hope it attracts several buyers.”
Meanwhile, Josh Inglis has been released from the Australian Test squad to pursue valuable red-ball cricket with Western Australia.
Inglis traveled from Adelaide to Sydney on Thursday night, allowing him to play in Friday’s Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the SCG.
Australia’s reserve batsman can be called up to the Test team if necessary and can also be sent back to Adelaide in case of a concussion substitute.
There is every chance Inglis will be in the conversation for a Test debut next week in Brisbane if Australia’s batting struggles again against India.
