Emerging Australian jockey Cassey Martinan has cheated death after a horrific fall at the Pinjarra track in Western Australia.

Martinan, 25, dislocated his hip while riding Of Course She Has at full speed in the incident on Sunday.

Many attendees feared the worst when Martinan was thrown onto the track between rival hoops in the third race of the program.

Martinan’s employer, trainer Stephen Miller, a former WA top jockey and Perth Cup-winning jockey, claimed it was a “serious fall” and that “his injuries could have been much worse”.

Paramedics rushed to Martinan as he lay face down on the tarmac.

She was then taken by ambulance to Peel Hospital.

A veterinary report later confirmed that Of Couse She Has was found to have a minor laceration to the knee of her hind leg.

Chief Steward Chris Brown, who oversaw Pinjarra’s race, confirmed that Martinan was conscious after the fall.

Martinan’s coach, Stephen Miller, stated that it was a “serious fall” and that “his injuries could have been much worse.”

“He complained of pain in his hip,” Brown said. ‘The doctors treated the hip and will also do other tests. “The stewards have postponed the investigation until the fall.”

Martinan’s first career voyage was in February 2022 aboard the Irritable Rodnee at Belmont Park.

His first victory came just a few weeks later, on the same horse, at Ascot.

He has accumulated 92 wins and 202 places in 1,276 starts.

With no racing background, the rising star has impressed prominent sports figures with his work ethic.

In 2022, Martinan won the WA Trainee of the Year award.

It is still unknown when Martinan will return to the court due to his hip dislocation.
