Australian cricketer Steve Smith suffered a painful hand injury during a net session in Adelaide ahead of the second Test match against India.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Australia, with Smith hit on his right hand on Tuesday afternoon while tackling with teammate Marnus Labuschange.

Smith, who ended his session immediately, appeared to be in serious discomfort afterward when a team physical therapist inspected the injury.

It is not known how serious Smith’s hand injury is, but the alarming incident has deepened Australia’s injury problems, with Josh Hazlewood already out with a side strain.

Smith has had an unfortunate run in Test cricket of late, being dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings against India and scoring 17 for 60 in the second.

His last century came in June 2023 against England, meaning the Australian star has gone 23 innings without a ton.
