George Shelley has revealed that a major artery in his throat was severed during a botched surgery to remove his tonsils earlier this year.
The X Factor star, 31, explained how he was stuck in hospital for a week during which former Union J bandmate Jaymi Hensley’s fiancé Oliver Marmon tragically died.
Oliver, 33, died after falling 30ft from the third floor of a three-star Hind hotel in Wellingborough, Northampton, on August 12, just weeks before his wedding to Jaymi.
george said the sun: ‘To be honest, it has been a very hard year. They took out my tonsils and cut my artery in two and I was in the hospital for a week.
“I lost a lot of blood and during that time I was heartbroken, my bandmate Olly’s fiancé and dealing with grief again.”
In 2017, George’s sister Harriet tragically died at just 21 years old, after being hit by a car and He suffered serious head injuries.

George said: ‘It’s been a really difficult year to be honest. They took out my tonsils and cut my artery in two and I was in the hospital for a week. “I lost a lot of blood and during that time I was heartbroken” (Pictured with Jaymi and Oliver).
Speaking about how his friend Jaymi has coped with his grief, he said: “I’m so proud of him.” He has continued working. He is creating happiness for himself by acting and that is what Olly loved with Jaymi. He was a great rock for me during my grief and I want to be a rock for him.”
More than a decade passed and Jaymi took to Instagram in September to say that the couple’s wedding became Oliver’s funeral date.
He wrote: ‘This is the first photo from the night I met you! Tomorrow should have been the happiest day of our lives, we should have said our vows and said “I do”, but instead it will be the day I let you rest.
‘I’ll never be ready, I miss you so much! I love you more than I have ever loved anyone.
An inquest into Oliver’s death was opened this month, which Northamptonshire assistant coroner Hassan Shah adjourned until March 12.
He said “the provisional cause of death is head injuries, pending further evidence,” and that the body had been released to his family.
Stylist Oliver and Jaymi had been in a relationship since 2009 and the loved-up couple announced their engagement in 2014.
They met when they were both 18 and recently shared smiling selfies on Instagram during their trips to Norway and France.

The couple were due to marry on September 24, and Jaymi last year used a quote from the late Queen Elizabeth II to describe Oliver as her “strength and permanence” during their 14-year relationship.
In 2018, George admitted that he almost committed suicide after losing his sister. revealing that he became agoraphobic and was prescribed antidepressants after her death.
Speaking about the stigma of mental illness and grief, George was asked if he had ever thought about suicide, to which he responded: “I mean, I was in… I don’t want to say those words because I don’t even want to think that, but it wasn’t right and that’s the honest truth.
“I was seeing a therapist. He recommended antidepressants three times, the third time he said, ‘this is it, come on, George,’ and I was afraid of what people would think of me.
‘The third time I accepted it. Understanding what you are going through and knowing that these things are there to help you for the moment.
‘Medication and support from medical professionals helps you, clears your path.

Harriet, 21, was killed on April 28, 2017, after suffering fatal head injuries outside the O2 Academy in Bristol shortly before midnight, while running onto the road.
“It has helped me learn to talk about it. I go to a retreat for brothers where brothers and sisters who have lost their brothers and sisters gather.”
George also spoke about how he became agoraphobic late last year as Harriet’s birthday, which was Christmas Day, approached.
Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder in which you fear and avoid places or situations that could cause you to panic and make you feel trapped, helpless, or ashamed.
He said: ‘Towards the end of last year I was in a really rubbish place and needed to get out of that.
‘My sister’s birthday was on Christmas Day, so getting through it as a family was a real test.
