An Australian shopper has raised concerns about a popular Kmart Christmas product that has since been pulled from shelves after her husband suffered chest pains that left her fearing for her life.

The Gold Coast mum purchased the Mr and Mrs Claus cotton-rich reversible duvet cover set from the discount retail chain on November 1.

Eager to get into the holiday spirit, she put the Christmas-themed bedding on her bed.

Two weeks later, her husband woke up early in excruciating pain and begged her to call an ambulance.

He claimed that paramedics told him to remove the quilt from the bed when they arrived as they had reportedly found similar complaints from other patients about the same product.

Her husband was taken to the hospital, where doctors performed an ECG (electrocardiogram) to check his heartbeat and performed blood tests.

Specialists determined that he had no underlying health problems.

The woman also claimed that her son began suffering asthma symptoms a few days after she placed the quilt on his bed.

Sle also claimed that the covers gave off a toxic odor that smelled like “jet fuel” when he opened the clothing from the packaging.

The smell did not dissipate even after washing the blankets several times.

‘I washed them a couple of times because the smell was horrible. “Even after washing them two or three times, the smell was still very strong,” he said. yahoo.

Her husband’s chest pains subsided the next day after she removed the bedding.

He also stated that his family is still feeling the effects of the bedding several weeks later.

“Now we all have a strange burning eye and stuffy nose,” he said.

The customer has since questioned the health risks associated with bedding and other accessories sold at Kmart.

‘Do your clothes have (these chemicals at lower levels) and are they making people sick?’ she asked.

Other shoppers took to social media to reveal they had similar experiences with the same duvet cover.

“I nearly fainted, vomited, and had other gastrointestinal symptoms, sudden, severe pain in my jaw and shoulder,” one shopper wrote.

‘I’m in the hospital now waiting for the results, don’t buy this!’

Another customer complained about the smell and compared it to that of a low-quality fan.

“If you’ve ever smelled a burning motor on a cheap pedestal fan, it smells like this,” they wrote.

A Kmart spokesperson said that although the product is safe, the retailer has removed the duvet covers from store shelves.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kmart for further comment.
