Baskin-Robbins announced that its popular turkey-shaped ice cream pie would be back on the menu this year, priced at just under $50

If cooking a turkey this Thanksgiving doesn’t appeal to you, then this ice cream rendition of the festive bird might get your vote.

Baskin-Robbins announced that its popular turkey-shaped ice cream pie would be back on the menu this year, for just under $50.

The hefty creation features sugar cones as turkey legs, a glossy caramel praline topping instead of turkey skin and an ice cream flavor of your choice inside.

The entire cake serves 12 to 16 people and contains more than 4,800 calories, according to DailyMail.com estimates.

Thanks to its quirky guise, content creators have been flocking to get their hands on a slice of the Baskin-Robbins turkey cake, and Chrissy Teigen even shows off how to ‘carve’ it in an Instagram video.

She explains, “I like to do the legs first… Take a super sharp knife… I like to go in at an angle so your turkey leg gets a nice curve.”

The DailyMail.com health team treated ourselves to Baskin-Robbins’ iconic turkey cake to find out if it lives up to the hype.

One of our taste testers had concerns about the food coloring, but more often than not our team enjoyed the sweet version of a holiday classic.

Baskin-Robbins doesn’t disclose the cake’s ingredients or nutritional content, but DailyMail.com did our best to make an estimate based on what we knew was in the turkey, including Oreo Cookies ‘n Cream ice cream , waffle cones, caramel praline sauce and cake. glaze.

A spokesperson told this website: ‘As all of our cakes are customizable with your favorite ice cream flavour, this will vary based on guests’ selection.’

Most Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors contain more than 250 calories per scoop.

Meanwhile, a spoonful of caramel praline topping adds another 120 calories to the load.

Our bird was stuffed with Oreo Cookies ‘n Cream, which has up to 280 calories per scoop.

Based on the size of the cake and the size of an ice cream scoop, it contains approximately 15 servings.

When it came time to carve our kingfisher, we weren’t sure how to dig into it first. Although it is recommended to separate the leg from the thigh first on a real Thanksgiving turkey, we wondered if we should split it down the middle, as we would a regular pie.

Perhaps it would have been helpful to look at Chrissy Teigen’s instructions, as the density and sticky consistency of the cake made it a bit tricky to handle.

Chrissy Teigen starts by parting the legs, then she likes to tackle the breasts.

In her video she shows how she cuts straight through the center of the ‘bird’ and then cuts into the sides ‘straight across the wing’.

“You’ve got a beautiful breast there,” she exclaims, holding up a piece of the creamy dessert to the camera.

She then cuts up the rest of the “turkey meat,” telling viewers that she treats it as if she were carving a traditional bird.

We agreed and decided that the ice cream cone legs were probably the easiest to disassemble, as they simply separate from the body of the ‘bird’.

Then we divided it in half and dug it in.

We were pleasantly surprised. Connor Boyd, Head of Health and Science at DailyMail.com, exclaimed that it was the best turkey he had ever had, with the ‘skin’ being his favorite part.

He explained: ‘The thick, chewy Oreo ice cream was delicious, although more cookie pieces would have taken it to the next level. Just like a real turkey, the skin was one of the tastiest parts.

“Rather than the crunchy salty goodness you get from the animal’s skin, the lightly burnt caramel flavor in the outer layer of the cake complimented the more traditional vanilla cookie sweetness of the ice cream perfectly.”

Deputy Health Editor Alexa Lardieri, our group’s vegetarian, said, “Since I’m a vegetarian, this pie is the only turkey I’ll eat this Thanksgiving holiday.”

“Although it’s been a while since I’ve had real turkey, I have to say I prefer the Oreo cookies and caramel skin of the cake, as opposed to the innards and oily layer of a real bird.”

And despite being lactose intolerant, Stacy Liberatore, the science and technology editor, couldn’t resist giving the “skin” a try. She thought it was “delicious” with a “chocolate-but-but-not-too-sweet flavor.”

I have to say that the iced turkey was very tasty and I went in for it. My favorite part was the faux grass cake frosting and the caramelized peel. The perfect combination for an afternoon pick-me-up.

However, the bright color of the bells and whistles raised concerns for health reporter Luke Andrews.

Fearing that they might contain a mix of food colorings and additives, he wasn’t too keen on trying the sweet treat.

He admitted: ‘I find this cake extremely concerning because it probably contains green food coloring No. 3.

‘It sits on top of a bubonic colored bright green nest, indicating the use of the dye – which has been banned in Europe after studies linked it to neurobehavioral problems in children.

‘I asked Baskin-Robbins for the ingredients list, but it didn’t come. Curious.’

Baskin-Robbins says the crazy dessert will “make everyone do a double take” and “it’s a show-stopping non-traditional tradition” designed to look “like it’s fresh out of the oven.”
