Gareth Bale warned that “a lot of things are not working” at Real Madrid after the club’s dismal 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, but backed Kylian Mbappé to show that “he is the best in the world.”
Madrid’s Champions League title defense was left in a precarious position after Wednesday’s defeat at Anfield in which Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo scored.
Carlo Ancelotti’s superstar team are 25th in the newly revised Champions League standings, while Liverpool are back in first place and Madrid icon Bale believes things are in disarray at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale is a club icon in Spain having won five Champions League titles along with three LaLiga triumphs and other major honors during his nine years at the club.
The now-retired Welshman starred in a Madrid team with Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric in his best years, but still managed to become one of the best in the world after a difficult start at the club.
Bale has now issued words of support for Mbappe, who is struggling to adapt in Madrid and missed a crucial penalty against Anfield in what was a torrid performance from the Frenchman.

Bale cast a vote of support for Kylian Mbappé as the Madrid star’s problems continued
“He (Mbappé) is the best in the world and it is a matter of time before he shows it,” Bale told TNT Sports.
‘He and Salah have missed penalties, but since Liverpool won we will only talk about Mbappé’s.
“Liverpool were much better by far. They dominated the game from start to finish,” he added.
Mbappé played his favored left-wing role in the absence of Vincius Jr., but was ineffective against Liverpool’s well-drilled defense and has subsequently been heavily criticized by the Spanish press.

Liverpool moved to the top of the Champions League standings with a dominant victory over Madrid.
The 15-time European Cup champions are facing an injury crisis with Vinicius joining Rodrygo, David Alaba, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal and Aurelien Tchouameni on the bench.
Defensive injuries have forced Ancelotti to try experimental formations and play with stars out of position, and Bale believes his former club is struggling to find a solution to its current crisis.
‘It is very difficult to compete in these circumstances with so many injuries. Many things are not working at the moment (in Madrid),’ Bale said.
“Real Madrid is going through a difficult time, but we know that it always finds a way to overcome it,” he added.
