Melbourne Storm captain Harry Grant has been hailed a hero after saving two swimmers who were struggling near rocks on a Queensland beach on Wednesday.
Grant, 26, was surfing at First Bay Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast at around 12pm after a tough season that included the NRL Grand Final with the Melbourne Storm.
Seeing two teenagers struggling in those conditions, Grant quickly intervened and potentially helped prevent multiple drownings.
Grant was showered with praise from followers on social media, including David Begley, whose son Riley was at the beach.
“My son and his mates were there and they (two swimmers) got stuck on a cliff,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘Harry quickly came over on his board and helped them.
“The boys then had a great chat with him – what a wonderful guy he is.”
Kellie Metcalfe, another parent in the group of struggling children, called the half-doll “a legend” and thanked Grant for helping and chatting with the excited youngsters.

Many football fans were eager to congratulate football star Harry Grant on his good deed.
‘I saw this guy (Grant) take a young man who was struggling in the water near some rocks on his surfboard to the beach. “An absolute legend,” football fan Bradley Norris also published in the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Facebook Page.
Grant, who is a talented surfer, has experience as a junior surfer at Yeppoon SLSC, which is located northeast of Rockhampton in central Queensland.
It’s also not the first time Grant has been a hero in the ocean.
On Christmas Day 2016, Grant was on holiday with his family at Oxley Beach in Port Macquarie on the New South Wales north coast.
A mother and her daughter were caught in a dangerous current of water and swept out to sea.
Grant and his father rushed to help, and the family was eternally grateful because the boy was not a strong swimmer.
After making his NRL debut with Melbourne Storm in 2018, Grant has become the code’s best number 9.
He was involved in his team’s Grand Final defeat in October, scoring the first try of the contest which Penrith won 14-6.
