A man who suffered from diabetes and blood clotting problems died after his beloved cat scratched him, causing him to bleed to death.
The scratches on 55-year-old Dmitry Ukhin’s leg were reportedly so severe that he died from blood loss.
The incident took place in the Kirishi district of the Leningrad region of Russia, when Dmitry went to look for his cat on the afternoon of Friday, November 22, after it ran away from home two days earlier.
Ukhin reportedly found the pet on the street and brought it home.
But that night, the feline badly scratched Dmitry’s leg.
The cat’s owner suffered from diabetes and poor blood clotting, apparently caused by high blood pressure.
Dmitry’s wife was away, so he called his neighbor and told him he was dying. He couldn’t stop the bleeding and called the doctors.
A police source reportedly told local media: ‘Around 11pm, a man called 112 to report that his friend was bleeding from his leg due to a broken vein.

Dmitry suffered from diabetes and had poor blood clotting, which caused his premature death.
“The arriving doctors only confirmed the man’s death, about which the police received a telephone message.”
According to the anonymous neighbor who provided first aid to the man, it took a long time for the medical team to arrive.
Dmitry’s wife confirmed this information to local media.
The woman, named Natalya, said that the cat, named Styopka, liked to walk alone, was friendly and harmless. His fate is currently unclear.
The cause of death has not yet been confirmed by forensic experts.
