Shoppers have mercilessly mocked a new line of sneakers designed by Adidas and Avavav that come with removable rubber ‘Superfingers’.

The German sportswear giant recently teamed up with fashion brand Avavav to create a pair of unique trainers, which cost £220 and come accompanied by detachable rubber toes, but fans have been skeptical of the quirky design.

Since then, the new sneakers, called ‘Superfinger Superstar Shoes’, have been mercilessly mocked by shoppers, who have called the footwear ‘alien’.

The sneakers come in red and black and come with a removable rubber toe cap, giving the impression that wearers are walking with long fingers or toes sticking out of their shoes.

Without the rubber attachment that clips neatly onto the back of the shoe, the sneakers look like any other sneaker sold by the popular sportswear company.

The unusually designed sneakers were released as part of a wider collection created by the united brands and were released on November 21 for £220.

According to a description on Adidas’ website, the finger-shaped accessories reference the ‘Avavav four-finger motif’, which the Stockholm-based brand has been known for since its founding in 2021.

Since it is completely removable, users will have the option to show off the rubber casing or leave the shoes as is.

Alternatively, the clip-on shell can be just as easily attached to other sets of existing sneakers or footwear.

And keen shoppers won’t be able to afford to purchase a pair of the rare sneakers for less than their retail price, as Adidas claims they are strictly not included in any promotions or discounts.

The item is described as: “A clear mix of the worlds of adidas and Avavav, the adidas Superstar shoes have an additional appendage that references Avavav’s four-finger motif.

‘The industrial strap allows the accessory to be removed, so the shoes can be worn without it. The appendix can also be combined with other shoes.

“The shoes themselves are made from premium full-grain leather with a rubber midsole, rubber outsole, and of course, the iconic rubber toe cap.”

In the fashion shoot photo for the collaboration, models wearing tracksuits from the collection appeared to jog in the unusual footwear, suggesting the rubber toes could be intended for sports.

Avavav also teased the launch of the quirky sneakers earlier this year during Milan Fashion Week, when they were worn in an alleged attempt to break the world record for “short distance running.”

Avavav director Beate Skonare Karlsson called the move “ironic.” She told The Face: “I feel honored and more than happy to have the opportunity to play with his incredibly strong DNA.”

“There’s a lot of irony in how seriously we take sports and fashion, and exploring that while staying serious has been incredibly fun.”

‘Fucking disgusting, no one wears that shit in real life, who the fuck are they making clothes for, aliens?’ Lmaoo.’

Another simply described the shoe as “ugly,” while another said it “stinks.”

Although some buyers were more enthusiastic when one declared that they “just ordered” a pair and “couldn’t wait.”

A second wrote: ‘These are epiqueee! We would never take them off.’

Another wrote: “It’s just people making money off of idiots.”

The news comes just a month after Adidas settled its legal dispute with Kayne West, two years after the brand vowed to cut ties with the rapper after he made anti-Semitic comments.

West’s $220 million annual deal with the German company, which was worth $1.5 billion in total, was terminated in October 2022, after the musician made repeated vile comments, including a post on ‘death-con 3 against the Jewish people’.

Last month, the two sides reached an out-of-court settlement with West to end all legal proceedings between them, adding that no money changed hands in the deal.

The move came after West had worked alongside the team for more than ten years.
