Shocking footage has emerged of the terrifying moment a passenger was thrown from a car after the vehicle crashed into a barrier along a busy motorway in broad daylight.
The horrific collision occurred near the Grieve Parade exit on the West Gate Freeway in Altona, south-west of Melbourne, in October 2023.
Moments before the accident, the vehicle was seen swerving across several lanes before the driver lost control.
Dashboard camera footage from a passing vehicle captured the moment the silver Toyota hatchback crashed into the roadside barricade next to the left lane.
The car crashed into several parts of the barrier before a female passenger was thrown from the vehicle.
The clip showed the woman rolling down the highway for several meters due to the impact and lying on the road in a fetal position.
The woman miraculously survived and suffered only minor injuries.
The motorist who recently shared the dash cam with Wyndham TV, claimed that the accident occurred after the female passenger yanked on the steering wheel.
Dashboard camera footage from another vehicle captured the moment the silver Toyota hatchback crashed into the roadside barricade (pictured) next to the left lane.
Shortly after, the car stopped several meters from the road, while dozens of vehicles passed by on the multi-lane highway.
The motorist shared the footage with Wyndham TV to highlight the dangers of reckless actions on the road.
The stunning footage has attracted more than 160,000 viewers since it was shared online on Tuesday.
Dozens of people wondered if it was the driver who was ejected from the car, as Wyndham TV reported.
‘How does the driver fall off the passenger side when there is a passenger in the car?’ asked one viewer.
Another added: “I’d say it was the woman who got kicked out,” another user wrote.
A third wrote: “It’s the passenger on the road, not the driver.”
Other viewers said the dash cam is a harsh reminder of the consequences not only for drivers but also for passengers if they do not obey the rules of the road.
The clip shows the passenger rolling down the road for several meters (pictured) as a result of the momentum before being seen lying on the ground in the fetal position.
“That’s why you wear a seat belt,” wrote one motorist.
Another added: “I guess there won’t be a seatbelt.”
A third wrote: “Seatbelts are a wonderful thing, but only when worn.”
Others questioned whether the passenger was thrown out of the car and one motorist revealed how he experienced a similar incident.
‘That was the driver of the car. I’ve (done) that before…without a seatbelt on, I flew into the passenger (side) and my car (became) a Tesla driving itself,’ one person wrote.
Several commentators were unimpressed by the collision and said there was nothing “funny” about the accident.
‘They will kill most of the people there. Just be careful guys,” one person wrote.
Daily Mail Australia understands Victoria Police were not aware of the accident because it was not a life-threatening incident.
Police are understood to be carrying out further investigations.
