Alec Baldwin claimed that Americans are “misinformed” while appearing at the 42nd Turin Film Festival in Turin, Italy, on Monday.
The Rust actor, 66, made his scathing assessment of the American worldview, claiming that Americans “know little or nothing” about global issues during a press conference.
“There is a hole, a void… a gap in information for Americans,” he said in a clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter in X.
‘Americans are very uninformed about reality, what is really happening: climate change, Ukraine, whatever. On the world’s most important issues, Americans have an appetite for a little information.’
‘You know what’s happening in the news, but information in America is driven by money. It’s a business.’
He went on to say that the void is “filled by the film industry.” Not only the independent film industry, not only the documentary film industry, but also narrative film.’

The father of eight was honored with the Lifetime Award at the festival.
He appeared at the press conference on the condition that no questions be allowed about the fatal Rust shooting, where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rust ceased production after a prop gun held by the Still Alice star went off on October 21, 2021, killing cinematographer Halyna and injuring director Joel Souza.
During the conference he was also asked about his hopes and concerns for Donald Trump’s administration, saying that ‘there are many challenges to face.’
The Golden Globe winner listed “the environment, the plastic problem, the permafrost problem” as “real problems to solve.”

In another part of the conference he was asked about the importance of female directors and the actor stated that he believes it is “a good thing” that there are more women behind the camera today.

The film premiered at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival in Toruń, Poland, on Wednesday, but without Alec.
It is understood that the actor was not invited to the event for fear that his presence would overshadow the premiere.
