Daniel Jones has interest from several teams as he weighs his return to the NFL, but he will not do so with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jones was released by the New York Giants at his own request last week after the franchise benched the quarterback – and demoted him to the fourth string – following an all-around disastrous season.
Jones, 27, has a variety of teams ready to offer him a fresh start, but it was reported Monday night that he does not plan to join the Las Vegas Raiders.
According Jordan SchultzJones wants to join a team that is a playoff contender and the Raiders, at 2-9, don’t fit the bill.
Jones could have found some playing time in Las Vegas, as the Raiders just lost quarterback Gardner Minshew II for the rest of the season to a collarbone injury.
Schultz added that Jones is drawing “substantial” interest from multiple playoff teams.
Daniel Jones has rejected the Las Vegas Raiders as his next possible landing spot
ESPN Adam Schefter He previously named the Vikings and Ravens as two of the teams most likely to get it.
Minnesota (9-2) and Baltimore (7-4 heading into Monday night’s clash) are covered at the quarterback position through Sam Darnold and Lamar Jackson respectively.
However, with both teams preparing for potential postseason appearances, Jones could serve as vital insurance in the event of an injury.
The 49ers have also been mentioned as a possible landing spot, with quarterback Brock Purdy dealing with a shoulder injury that forced him to miss last weekend’s game.
San Francisco is on the playoff bubble at 5-6, but of course has some postseason pedigree after its Super Bowl run last year.
If Purdy’s injury is considered longer-term, San Francisco’s interest could be “very real,” according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
