Nowadays, couples usually meet on dating apps like Tinder or Hinge.
But for former NRL star turned radio host Corey Oates, it was a year of hauntings and near-arrest that led to him meeting his now-wife, Tegan Miles.
Tegan revealed the very creepy way Corey, 30, pursued her with her new radio co-host Robin Bailey on Tuesday.
The former Broncos player has officially joined the Robin and Kip KIIS 97.3 FM breakfast team for 2025, and to welcome him on board, host Robin and Kip Wightman visited his family over the weekend.
Robin asked Corey’s wife of 10 years and the mother of his two young children how their romance began, and her response left her completely shocked.
Tegan told how she met Corey, then 19, in the yoghurt aisle of Ashgrove Woolworths, and the pair got talking.

‘HWe talked so much that I had to put the yogurt back on the shelf and get a new one,” he recalled.
“He played football, but he was very young. He was nineteen years old, very, very young.
The couple had been getting to know each other until Corey learned from a friend that Tegan’s father was former Broncos legend Gene Miles, and he quickly stopped talking to her.
‘I didn’t hear from him after he sorted that out for about twelve months. I think he found out from someone. And then all of a sudden he stopped talking and I said, “I didn’t know what happened.”
‘And then, yeah, twelve months later, when he came back…’ Tegan continued.
Robin interrupted her to ask for clarification. ‘So what do you mean when he came back? When did you run into him again?
“In fact, he started ringing my doorbell one morning at 2 in the morning,” he revealed.
‘He called me eight times. He messaged me six (times), he sent me two Snapchats. And it was only because I opened Snapchat that he knew he was obviously on my phone and then he started yelling at my window.
‘Was he drunk?’ -Robin asked.
“I was definitely on my way home after a night of partying,” he confirmed.
Oates cheated on his now wife Tegan for a year before turning up drunk at her house at 2am after missing eight calls from her.

Robin asked if Tegan hadn’t heard from Corey in the previous 12 months, before he boldly shouted at her window under the cover of darkness and alcohol.
“We would talk from time to time, but it was nothing for more than two or three days,” he explained. ‘He would run away again. He would be too scared.
—Did you let him in? -Robin asked.
“I did it because I thought, ‘Someone’s going to call the police on this guy,'” Tegan explained.
The petite blonde remembered thinking, “This guy will soon be getting a public nuisance warning.”
Tegan said she wasn’t willing to “waste” her time with Corey if he didn’t “commit to something.”
She issued him an “expiration date” of March 31. Five days later, he called her and said, “Okay, we’ll try this.”
“Those were his exact words,” he added.
Tegan’s father Gene only asked her one question about her Broncos winger boyfriend: “Is he a good guy?”
She said Corey was and her father said, “It’s okay, you have a chance.”
“And we’ve been together for almost ten years,” he concluded.
Corey has been a regular at the brisbane radio show since October, starring in his own light-hearted ‘Find Corey a Job’ segment.
The surprise career move comes after the popular footy star announced he was retiring from the NRL after 216 games in October.
The owners of ARN announced that the football champion will remain on air for the rest of the year as part of the regular breakfast team, with the trio returning in 2025.
Meanwhile, the show has been rebranded as “Robin & Kip Now with Corey Oates in the Morning.”
Oates’ ‘work experience’ over the past few weeks, which he shared with listeners on the breakfast show’s ‘Find Corey a Job’ segment, included trying out jobs as an air traffic controller, real estate agent, counselor and sales assistant retailers.
The footy favorite isn’t the only high-profile NRL player to land a job at KIIS FM recently.
Former Sea Eagles champion Cooper Johns, 24, announced he would be joining the station as part of The Kyle and Jackie O Show for 2024.
