Dozens of tourists missing as boat sinks 'during five-day diving trip' off Egyptian coast

Dozens of tourists are missing after the sinking of a boat off the Egyptian coast.

The ship named Sea Story reportedly sank near Shaab Sadayah, a popular diving destination, opposite the Marsa Alam resort.

A crew member sent a distress signal at 5.30am this morning, local media report.

The ship departed on a diving trip from Ghalib Port in Marsa Alam on November 24 and was scheduled to arrive at Hurghada Marina on November 29.

It had 31 tourists of different nationalities on board as well as 14 crew members.

A search operation involving the Egyptian navy is underway. A helicopter has been deployed to search the area.

Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafy said several tourists were rescued, but did not reveal how many remain missing.

This is breaking news. More to follow.
