The pastry chef earned the highest score from judges Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon for his final dessert, beating out fan favorites Christy Tania and Emelia Jackson.
‘How did I beat a 36? With a 38. Exactly,’ said Demetrios after his victory, still incredulous.
“It’s going to take me a couple of days to process this,” he admitted.
‘When I looked at their plates, I didn’t think I was going to emerge victorious. So I think that says a lot. “This whole competition has been a real challenge, but I am very grateful for it.”
The win marked the culmination of weeks of intense competition highlighting Australia’s best pastry talent.
Judge Melissa Leong praised the three finalists, telling them: “You stand tall among the titans.”
She praised Tania’s resilience, saying, “You’ve proven you’re exactly where you need to be,” and celebrated Jackson’s return to the kitchen where she first launched her baking career.
As he lifted the winner’s trophy to cheers and applause, Demetrios was visibly excited and exclaimed, ‘Aaaaargh! Yeah!’
The crowd erupted when the $100,000 prize was awarded, cementing his status as the country’s leading dessert master.
