A devastated dog owner is speaking out to warn Australians about the dangers of kangaroos after one of her boxers was brutally attacked and killed.
Raylene Main, 72, was walking Lenny and Logan along the estuary in the small coastal suburb of Port Noarlunga, 30 kilometers south of Adelaide, just before Christmas.
But her normally peaceful morning routine turned to tragedy when her off-leash pets spotted some kangaroos at the Onkaparinga River Reserve and went to take a look.
“And while Lenny was coming back, two-year-old Logan crossed the river bank and never came back,” Ms Main said. The advertiser.

He frantically searched for hours for his missing two-year-old dog and even enlisted the help of a friend who had drones.
‘At around 4:30 pm that afternoon, almost 10 hours after he disappeared, my friend found him in the water. The kangaroo had drowned him,” he said.
‘I had visions of him being attacked and bleeding to death, but this was very different. It’s something you don’t expect.’
Since then, Main has heard that at least three other dogs have been drowned by kangaroos in the area in recent years.
The retired real estate agent believes suburban development has forced kangaroos to invade built-up areas and has noted “there are a lot more around.”
He is now urging pet owners to be careful of dogs around kangaroos.
Two months before Logan’s heartbreaking loss, Victoria’s Mildura martial arts school posted a video on TikTok showing a man rescuing his dog who was being choked by a kangaroo.
The video shows a ‘7ft kangaroo’ holding a dog underwater, before the man reaches out to save his pet.
They both returned safely to the river bank.
