A Jet2 spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that flight LS3214 from Burgas to Liverpool Johnn Lennon was diverted to Cologne on Monday 16 September due to a customer requiring medical assistance.

‘We can unfortunately confirm that the client has sadly passed away.

‘We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the client’s family and friends at this difficult time.’
