Police officer seriously injured in suspected hit-and-run

A police officer has been seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run in Perth.

The police officer, aged in his 40s, was hit by a vehicle near a roundabout in Redcliffe at around 5pm.

He was trying to speak to the driver, who had stopped, when the car accelerated and hit the officer, WA Police said.

The car crashed about 15 minutes later in Bellevue and a man in his 30s was arrested.

It is unclear whether the officer was deliberately run over.

“The police officer received serious injuries in the incident and was transported by St John WA to Royal Perth Hospital,” a police spokesman said.

The police are investigating.
