Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been placed on injured reserve

Tua Tagovailoa has been placed on injured reserve and will miss at least the next four NFL games after suffering the third concussion of his NFL career.

Tagovailoa went down after running for a first down and then diving headfirst into Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

By placing him on injured reserve, the quarterback will be forced to miss the next four games before the team can activate him.

Skylar Thompson is expected to start this coming Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

On Monday, the Dolphins signed Tyler “Snoop” Huntley from the Ravens’ practice squad to fill the void left by the injured Tagovailoa.

With Tagovailoa’s recent concussion (his third in three seasons), many are wondering if the Dolphins quarterback will consider hanging up his pads.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter It was previously reported that Tagovailoa would meet with neurologists this week to begin the decision-making process on whether he would hang up his shoulder pads.

However, on Sunday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Tagovailoa reportedly has no plans to retire. He is already seeing concussion specialists and plans to continue doing so. There is no set date for his return.

Tagovailoa’s agents did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for confirmation.

The left-hander suffered the third concussion of his career on Thursday night and DailyMail.com revealed on Friday that the Dolphins are considering sitting him out for the rest of the year to give him time to properly decide on his future.

Reports have indicated that the quarterback wants “information about the severity of his latest concussion and the cumulative effect of those he has suffered in the past.”

Tagovailoa was struggling when he crashed head-on into Hamlin in Thursday’s Week 2 loss.

After the hit, Tagovailoa’s body went into the so-called “fencing response,” an indicator of a serious brain injury.

He was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power, but was diagnosed with a concussion within six minutes of returning to the locker room. He is expected to miss a significant amount of playing time.

This is not the first time Tagovailoa has suffered a brain injury on the field.

In the 2022 NFL season, he suffered two separate concussions — he received a third, additional hit to the head that ultimately led to major changes to the NFL’s concussion protocol.

In his senior year of college at the University of Alabama, Tagovailoa also suffered a concussion.

Leading health experts have advised the quarterback to consider retirement for the sake of his family and his future health.

On Friday morning, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel sought to quell rumors about Tagovailoa’s future: “We’re talking about his career, his career is his,” he said. “I just wish people would listen for a second to what I’m saying, that talking about his future is not in his best interest.

“So I’m going to ask everyone who really cares to make that the last thing on their mind.”
