I snapped at my sister-in-law after she called my baby the wrong name – now my husband is mad at me

A mother has been accused of overreacting after criticizing her sister-in-law for repeatedly calling her newborn son the wrong name.

The 25-year-old opened up about the situation on Reddit’s ‘AmItheA**hole’ forum, saying she and her husband were ‘absolutely thrilled’ to welcome their baby into their lives.

‘On behalf of our son, my in-laws held a small gathering with the immediate family. This was also the first time many of them met our son, especially the boys,” he wrote.

The mom said they had a “great time” with her family, but it would have been better if her husband’s sister didn’t keep calling her son by the wrong name.

‘Her cousin also had a boy, two months older than our son, and [my sister-in-law] I kept confusing his name with ours,’ he explained. ‘YO I think he just forgets his nephew’s name.

He noticed that his son’s aunt regularly called him by the wrong name during his three-day stay at his in-laws’ house.

‘My husband and the rest of the family found it funny and were constantly reminded of it. Me too, but it got to the point where he pissed me off,” he admitted.

—When she called him by the wrong name again, I exploded. I told him that whoever he’s calling isn’t here and that if he’d been paying attention, maybe he would have realized it’s a different baby.’

The mother recalled how there was an awkward silence before her sister-in-law apologized and assured her it would not happen again. she toHe admitted that his outburst made the rest of the weekend awkward for everyone.

“After I returned, my husband told me that it was unjustified and that I was cruel to his sister because of an honest mistake,” she said. “Since he knew she had trouble with people’s names, she should have given him some time.”

The Reddit user added that she agreed to apologize to her sister-in-law, but wasn’t convinced she was wrong and asked readers to weigh in.

Many commenters felt she had overreacted and said it was an honest mistake and not something to take personally.

“From what you’ve written, this was not intentional,” one person responded. ‘There [are] Two new babies in her life and they have very similar names. It’s hard to fully judge without knowing the names. But anyway, you yelled at him despite your apparent belief that it was a mistake.

‘Once, twice, maybe even three times, it could be an innocent mistake. But for me, several times it is deliberate,” one person insisted.
