NFL fans were treated to a shining preseason moment from Patrick Mahomes on Saturday after he made an “unbelievable” behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce.
Andy Reid is known for not giving his starters much time before the regular season begins, but those in attendance at Arrowhead got an early look at two superstars against the Detroit Lions.
Both Mahomes and Kelce were focused from the start, and it wasn’t long before their bond became apparent, with a moment of magic midway through the first quarter.
Mahomes faked a handoff to his running back, ran to the right and then, incredibly, threw the ball behind his back to find Kelce in space at the 30-yard line.
Kelce managed to catch the ball and advance five yards, before being tackled at the 25-yard line.
The moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans reacting in disbelief at the ingenious move.
“This is crazy,” one said, before another added: “Oh, it’s the end for the rest of the NFL.”
Another X user wrote: ‘New move unlocked… that kid is just bored!’, while another was a little more skeptical, saying: ‘I dare him to try that in the regular season.’
Regardless of what plays Mahomes and the Chiefs try in the regular season, they will surely be Super Bowl contenders once again when they go for a three-peat in February.
Mahomes, Kelce and company have lifted the Lombardi Trophy the past two seasons and hope to do the same in New Orleans this time around.
His recent success has also been accompanied by a huge surge in popularity, largely thanks to Kelce’s ongoing relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Swift attended most of Kelce’s games last season and is expected to do the same this time around.
