NRL clubs including Canterbury are reportedly considering signing former Wallaby player Kurtley Beale following his acquittal of sexual assault charges.

A jury found the former New South Wales Waratahs and Wallabies star not guilty of raping a woman in a toilet cubicle at a Bondi Beach hotel in December 2022.

The jury found him not guilty of three counts of rape on February 9.

Beale, now 35, is hoping to land one last football contract and has not ruled out a move to the NRL, with several clubs reportedly interested in the former international.

The Bulldogs are one club that has been approached about hiring Beale, according to news corporation.

While the Bulldogs are discussing the option and have not ruled it out, their impressive preseason performance has led them to delay immediate plans to bolster the roster, according to the report.

Additionally, French rugby clubs are expressing interest in signing the 35-year-old former star.

Beale expressed interest in rugby league following his court clearance but appears to be leaning more towards an overseas rugby union deal.

Despite this, NRL clubs have been contacted to assess their interest in signing him for at least this season, allowing him to fulfill a long-standing desire to play rugby league.

Beale, who grew up in western Sydney, openly admires rugby league and played 95 tests for the Wallabies.

He missed selection for last year’s World Cup due to the court process and has maintained his fitness under the guidance of sprint coach Roger Fabri.

Beale appears unlikely to return to Super Rugby with the NSW Waratahs and is exploring options in rugby league.

Beale faced one count of sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of sexual touching in the New South Wales District Court, following an alleged incident at Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel in December 2022.

The woman, who cannot legally be identified, claimed Beale touched her butt and forced her to perform oral sex in a bathroom stall.

After hearing legal instructions from Judge Graham Turnbull, the jury deliberated just hours before returning the verdicts.

“God, I’m so relieved,” Beale said after the trial.

‘That’s human nature, that natural reaction, we have to doubt and wonder if the truth will ever come out, if things will turn out the way they should.

“I just had to stay focused, train every day, and I was lucky to have people around me that allowed me to do that.”
