Iconic sports radio host Chris “Mad Dog” Russo isn’t happy with Donald Trump’s treatment of Joe Biden. Meanwhile, some listeners aren’t happy with him breaking the format.

Although he doesn’t often discuss politics, Russo did weigh in on Trump during a recent interview on Jimmy Traina’s Sports Illustrated Media Podcast.

Specifically, the former Mike & The Mad Dog co-host slammed Trump for his criticism of Biden in the weeks after the current president dropped out of the 2024 presidential race in favor of his vice president, Kamala Harris. At the time, the former reality TV star said Biden is “the worst president, by far, in the history of our nation.”

“What is he doing?” Russo said of Trump. “Biden announces he’s going to leave, he’s going to retire. And he kills him? Say what you want about him… but (Biden) gave his fucking life for the United States from 1972 onwards.”

X commenters were less than thrilled to see Russo weigh in on Trump: “Chris Russo @MadDogUnleashed knows nothing about sports. Why does he think he would know anything about politics?”

“No wonder,” another replied. “He’s always been a loudmouth jerk, ever since Mike & The Mad Dog. The funny village idiot who wreaked havoc on the ratings. A complete jerk from day one.”

Others kept it short and (not so) sweet.

“Go to bed, dog,” wrote one. “You are a non-existent being.”

Another added: “Russo is an idiot and it’s easy to ignore him.”

Russo went on to express sympathy for Biden over the loss of his first wife and son in a car accident in 1972.

“He also had a tragedy in his life with his wife and son, who died in that car accident,” Russo continued. “I think his heart, regardless of whether you like his politics or not, is generally in the right place. I think he cares.”

Russo then contrasted Biden’s humanity to Trump’s.

“The fact that (Trump) can’t just let him walk away and give him his day,” Russo said. “Even Biden, when Trump got shot, said, ‘I’m going to call him,’ and he called him by his first name.

“Even Biden has to be above controversy sometimes. It really bothered me. Don, can you let the man off with a little grace for 24 hours, six months before the election? And not attack him… that really bothered me.”

Russo’s political leanings are not well known to listeners.

Trump has been no kinder to his new opponent, calling Harris “the most unadmired, most disrespected, worst vice president in the history of our country.”

Politico previously reported that New Jersey-based Russo donated to former Garden State Gov. Chris Christie’s 2020 presidential campaign.
