About the song: The ‘Taylor Swift effect’ is expected to have boosted growth
Britain’s economy is set to get a boost from Taylor Swift after fans splashed out on train tickets, restaurants and hotels, City analysts say.
Official figures are expected to show a pick-up in growth this week, and the Love Story singer may have played a role.
Economists said June GDP data, due on Thursday, could show the impact of “Swifties” flocking to London, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff to see their idol perform on her Eras tour.
The “Taylor Swift effect” and busy pubs during the Euros are expected to have boosted growth in the key services sector, they said.
Investec analysts forecast GDP to have risen 0.7 percent in the second quarter and monthly growth to have been 0.2 percent in June.
Swift will play five more dates at London’s Wembley Stadium starting this week.
