When should you book a beauty treatment before a trip? Global beauty and wellness experts at Fresha reveal the most efficient time before you go on holiday

BEAUTY

Global experts in Fresh (the world’s #1 beauty and wellness marketplace powered by free, all-in-one business software with integrated payments) reveals the most efficient pre-travel beauty treatment schedule because no one knows more about booking appointments than they do.

With over 100,000 partner stores in over 120 countries, Fresha simplifies business operations and improves customer experiences.

1 month before departure – waxing

“Whether you’re waxing or laser hair removal, you’ll need to book your final hair removal appointment about a month before you leave,” say Fresha experts.

‘This allows any irritation that may occur to calm down.

‘We advise people to avoid sun exposure in the desired treatment area for 2 to 4 weeks prior to the session, as laser treatment makes the skin more sensitive to heat and UV rays.’

Elizabeth Kugelman, senior aesthetician and laser technician at Erase Spa in New York City, adds, “After laser, I recommend waiting two weeks to sunbathe and I would say 24 to 48 hours for self-tanning or spray tanning.”

1-2 weeks before departure: 'Now is the time to think about any major changes you want to make to your hair, so your ends are neat and your colour looks fresh,' say Fresha experts.

“Now is the time to think about any major changes you want to make to your hair, so your ends look neat and your color looks fresh,” say Fresha experts.

‘However, if you choose to lighten your hair, there are additional precautions you should take during the holidays to prevent fading of bleached hair.

‘The sun is known to strip melanin from hair, causing it to discolor. Wearing a hat or headscarf is the easiest way to limit exposure, but if you want your hair to be exposed to the sun, try to limit direct sun exposure for long periods.’

2-3 days before departure: nails, eyelashes, eyebrows.

‘A few days before leaving is the perfect time to get a manicure and pedicure.

‘Whether you choose classic or intricate French designs, nails should be reserved as close to your vacation as possible to ensure you have the freshest set.

‘A few days before you leave is also a good time to get some eyebrow or eyelash treatment. A popular eyebrow treatment is tinting followed by waxing or threading.

‘For lashes, you can opt for LVL, a treatment that lifts your natural lashes, or if you want something more dramatic, opt for eyelash extensions.’

The day before departure: last-minute home treatments

‘The day before (or the night before) you may want to pamper yourself a little at home. Combine a hydrating face mask with a nourishing hair mask to really feel pampered.

‘It’s also a good idea to exfoliate your skin before you go out, and then use a moisturizer and body oil for a last-minute glow.

‘While you’re out, be sure to follow any aftercare your esthetician has recommended and of course, wear sunscreen!’

James Bridgman, resident vacation planner and director of marketing communications at Fresha, warns that while following this vacation preparation timeline will help you be ready for your trip, be sure to set aside enough time to book your appointments to avoid disappointment.

‘Consider booking all your appointments at least a month before your trip, so you can plan accordingly and avoid any last-minute rush,’ says James.

“And if you’re going to cut your hair, remember to let it grow for a few days so it looks perfect for your big trip.”

One week before departure

‘Start packing at least a week before your vacation,’ says Glamhive stylist. Kelsey O’Connor.

‘This allows you to carefully plan your outfits to ensure everything goes together and suits the activities you have planned.

‘Starting early also gives you time to purchase any missing items and reduces last-minute stress.’

Glamhive Stylist Georgia Milton She adds: “When you give yourself this space, you can be more intentional. When you procrastinate and rush to the finish, you’re likely to forget the right bra for that dress or the belt that flatters the whole outfit, etc.”

To achieve the best vacation wardrobe and avoid any wardrobe meltdowns, Georgia recommends keeping the color palette simple.

‘You want to focus on versatility as much as possible, so choose items that you repeat the most in your wardrobe (that aren’t boring, they just go with a lot of other items).

‘Think of packing as if you were creating a mini capsule wardrobe. It should feel like a cohesive little collection dedicated to your getaway.’

To avoid lugging around a ton of bulky items, Glamhive Stylist Teresa Foss recommends packing several items for each pair of shoes and each bag.

Teresa says: ‘Bring more blouses than pants in a variety of sleeve lengths and formalities.’

Glamhive Stylist Jamie Lewis It is recommended to check the weather as your trip approaches.

“That’s when you’ll know if you’re packing too much or need to make adjustments,” she says.

As part of the editing process, the expert suggests photographing all the looks in full.

‘Not only does this eliminate excess baggage, but it also allows you to try on all the garments and match them perfectly.

‘Now all you have to do every day is look at your photo album.’
