The Oscar-winning actress, 49, who is still embroiled in a divorce battle with Brad Pitt, 60, first revealed in 2001 that she spoke to a killer during a “pretty grim” time in her life aged 22 (pictured last month).
‘I was very aware that many people around me, like my mother, would feel like they weren’t giving enough or doing enough if I took my own life. So my solution to that was that if someone else had taken my life – as in a ‘robbery’ – then it would be murder and no one would feel like they had let me down.
Jolie said that she planned to ‘withdraw cash over a certain period of time, so there wasn’t a large portion left in my bank account’ to the killer.
However, the killer had a surprising response: Jolie said: “He was a decent enough guy and asked if I could think about it and call him back in two months. Something changed in my life and I decided I had to persevere.
In 2011, Jolie hinted at a dark past when she told 60 Minutes: “I’ve been through tougher, darker times and I survived. I didn’t die young, so I’m very lucky. There are other artists and people who didn’t survive certain things.”
“I think people can imagine that I did the most dangerous and the worst thing,” he said at the time.
“There are many reasons why I shouldn’t be here. Think of all those times when you were close to things that were too dangerous, when you took too many risks.”
Speaking about her younger years in a conversation with Time, Jolie said that being a mother to her six children had allowed her to grow as a person.
She said: ‘I wasn’t a very stable young woman. In fact, I never thought I could be a mother to anyone. I remember the decision to become a mother. It wasn’t hard to love. What was hard was knowing that from that moment on I had to be the one to make sure everything was okay.
