A multi-vehicle crash on a major road on Sydney’s northern beaches has left one person dead.

Emergency services were called to Pittwater Rd in Mona Vale at around 2.15pm after reports two cars had collided.

One of the cars suffered significant damage to its bonnet, while the other ended up overturned on its roof in the natural area.

Pittwater Rd has been closed northbound at Vineyard St.

New South Wales Police said the male driver of one of the vehicles was trapped inside with serious injuries and, despite the efforts of first responders, could not be revived.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Officers attached to the Northern Beaches Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information, who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.
