Lynne McGranger has been criticised by comedian Julia Morris following the Home and Away star’s controversial comment about Robert Irwin’s Gold Logie nomination.

The 71-year-old veteran actress mocked Robert after he was nominated, commenting on his “lack” of “television experience.”

Robert is up against TV veterans Julia, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Tony Armstrong, and Lynne shares her surprise that the budding star was also in the running.

“Sorry but old Irwin has been on TV for a damn minute. I mean no disrespect,” he wrote on Instagram while supporting his good friend Larry.

Julia has now come to the defence of her 20-year-old I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! co-host and branded the comment inappropriate.

She said it was fine for Lynne to seek votes for her Seven colleague, but not at the expense of a new star like Robert.

“I understand that people are not usually exposed to people from other networks,” Julia said.

“I think Lynne’s love for Larry… everyone looks at it and says, ‘Larry deserves it, he’s been here forever.'”

She continued: ‘Well, my answer to that is that everyone on that list deserves it.

“I completely understand Lynne’s feeling of wanting to protect and fight fiercely for the person you adore, but it’s not appropriate to criticize another person at the expense of another. And Lynne knows that’s not the case.

“I think Lynne knows better than that. Lynne is a fantastic woman and has been in the industry for a long time, she is an incredibly talented actress and I think that’s where her passion for wanting Larry to take her is.”

Lynne’s comments were echoed by her friend Larry, 59, who took to Instagram to post a funny exchange he had with his friend following her nomination.

He shared a screenshot of a text message where his friend congratulated him on his nomination, before joking that he would “vote for Robert Irwin.”

Larry joked in a caption: “I’m a lucky guy to have friends who are so supportive of me in this brutal Logie battle,” prompting Lynne’s comment in support of his Logie battle.
