Argentina’s national team is under fire after a video posted by midfielder Enzo Fernandez captured the Copa America winners singing a racist chant on Sunday night.
Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 at Hard Rock Stadium to retain their Copa America crown.
But an Instagram live stream by Fernandez captured an ugly side of the post-match celebrations, when team members sang an infamous song that first emerged ahead of the 2022 World Cup final against France.
Before Argentina also won that trophy, fans were caught chanting about how France’s players were “all from Angola” and how they “fuck transvestites like fucking Mbappé” (an apparent reference to the star’s previously reported romance with transgender model Inés Rau).
And the Argentine players could be heard repeating at least the Angolan part of the vile song on their bus on Sunday, as Fernandez filmed the celebrations on his phone with a broad smile.

The Copa America champions defeated Colombia on Sunday night in extra time in Miami, Florida.
The Chelsea player had been filming before the Argentina players started singing this particular song, but ended the Instagram Live seconds after the racist chant began.
X fans criticized Argentina for singing the song.
“Argentines are disgusting,” wrote one.
“Useless footballer. Useless human being,” said one of them about Fernández.
“Someone tell me this is a joke,” said another.
A video of the incident has been seen on X (which also includes various previous chants) More than a million times.
Only one player in France’s 2022 World Cup squad, Eduardo Camavinga, was born in Angola.
Colombia’s starting lineup on Sunday was made up mostly of black players, including forward Jhon Córdoba, midfielder Jefferson Lerma and defender Davinson Sánchez.
And after a post-Copa America break, Fernandez will return to a Chelsea team captained by Reece James, who is black.
