Any of the starting pitchers on the 2024 American League All-Star Team could have gotten the big start in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, but only one will get that honor: Corbin Burnes.

Burnes, who plays for the Baltimore Orioles, was announced as the All-Star starter on Monday when MLB tweeted the starting lineups for both leagues.

Burnes, 29, is having an explosive season for the Orioles. In 19 starts and 118 2/3 innings, he has a 2.43 ERA with 110 strikeouts and a 1.045 WHIP. He has been a cornerstone of the rotation, which will be even more important in the second half as everyone battles the injuries and fatigue that come with a 162-game season.

This is Burnes’ fourth consecutive All-Star selection and his first with the Orioles. The previous three times were as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 draft and traded him to the Orioles on Feb. 1 after six seasons as the featured player in their rotation.

While Burnes had been to the All-Star Game three other times as a member of the Brewers, he is doing something with the Orioles that he has never done before: starting the All-Star Game.

You can watch Burnes take the mound Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, when he’ll face National League starter Paul Skenes.
