Matty ‘J’ Johnson opens up about why a common parenting ‘mistake’ is actually the best thing for his family.

The former Bachelor star, 36, and his wife Laura Byrne, 38, have revealed they allow their two daughters, Marlie-Mae, five, and Lola, three, to share their bed.

And despite the widespread perception that this causes sleepless nights, Matty has discovered that the opposite is actually true.

“There’s definitely this narrative that you shouldn’t let your kids sleep with you,” the reality TV star explained to news.com.au Thursday.

“We wake up almost every morning with both kids in our beds and that’s perfectly fine with us,” she told the publication.

“It means everyone can sleep much better instead of having to deal with a screaming child being dragged back into their bed,” she continued.

This comes after the reality star revealed that sharing his parenting mistakes on social media actually makes him feel better.

He said Nine honey that raising her two daughters was “an endless list of failures.”

“There’s nothing that makes me feel more normal and not like a total failure than sharing the story of a struggle as a father,” he said.

Matty gave examples such as: “trying to get rid of the pacifier, failed sleep routines, or my son hating me.”

“Other parents reach out to me, either on social media or in person, and say, ‘I’m going through the same problem! ’” he says, and it makes him feel better.

Matty and Laura announced their engagement while on holiday in Fiji in 2018.

The couple tied the knot on the South Coast in 2022.

They welcomed Marlie-Mae in 2019, followed by Lola in February 2021.
