Former NSW Liberal Treasurer Matt Kean has been appointed chair of the Climate Change Authority.

Premier Anthony Albanese made the surprise announcement on Monday, just days after Kean resigned from state parliament.

“As the former Treasurer of New South Wales and Minister for Energy and Environment, Matt Kean is uniquely qualified to lead the Climate Change Authority and I am very pleased that he has accepted the government’s invitation to fill the vacancy,” said Mr Albanian.

Kean, who previously served as a former energy minister in the New South Wales state Liberal government led by Dominic Perrottet,
