Formula 1 – Spanish Grand Prix LIVE: Start time, leaderboard and lap-by-lap updates as Max Verstappen leads in Barcelona as Lando Norris makes his second and final pit stop to set up tense finish

Lap 55: Norris looks to get closer to Verstappen, but the gap remains around five seconds in favor of the Red Bull driver.

Lap 54: The first three seem to be Verstappen, Norris and Hamilton. But in what order will it be at the end of the 66th and final round?

Lap 52: Hamilton and Russell are on the main straight and the seven-time world champion jumps into third place.

Lap 48: McLaren changes Norris’s medium tires to soft ones and the stop lasts three seconds. But the British man manages to stay in second position.

Lap 47: Norris is hungry for his second F1 victory and McLaren calls him in to fit a new set of tyres.

Lap 46: Both Hamilton and Russell gain positions. Hamilton overtakes Ferrari’s Sainz for sixth place, while Russell takes fourth place.

Lap 45: Verstappen enters the pits and is fitted with a new set of soft Red Bull tires. Norris takes the initiative.

Lap 43: Russell sets the fastest lap of the race!

Lap 41: Thanks to new tires, Norris closes in on the first place finisher, Verstappen. The difference was eight seconds but the McLaren driver has reduced it to five and a half seconds.

Lap 40: In tenth place, Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu is having a great race and is on track to secure his first point of the season.

Lap 37: After his exciting battle with Norris, Russell needs to regroup and enters the pits to change tires.

Lap 35: WOW! Russell and Norris handle the entertainment here. Norris moves up to second place at turn three, but the Mercedes driver regains the spot from him at turn five.

Norris eventually regains second place, but Russell didn’t give him up easily!

Lap 32: I mentioned before that Norris was looking to pass Hamilton and he finally does it and advances.

Lap 31: Norris is currently driving on new tires and trying to get into turn one early, but can’t pass Hamilton… for now.

Lap 29: The temperature in Barcelona is still warm but clouds are beginning to form. Are we going to rain a little?

Lap 27: With the help of new tires and

DRS, Norris is currently the fastest man and surpasses Sainz.

Round 25: 1. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Lap 24: Almost immediately after McLaren called Norris, Ferrari decides to do the same with LeClerc for his first pit stop.

Verstappen is now the leader, with Russell second and his Mercedes teammate Hamilton third.

Lap 23: Norris leads, but McLaren finally decides to include him. He returns sixth, behind Sainz.

Lap 22: Verstappen passes Piastri and McLaren decides the time is right for Piastri to pit. He starts again in 11th place and immediately overtakes Hulkenberg.

Lap 20: Hamilton has the DRS on the main straight and sends him to the inside before passing Sainz.

Lap 18: Red Bull follows as Verstappen comes in and immediately takes off quickly in fourth place.

Lap 17: Now it’s Hamilton’s turn as he enters the pits. He then takes off after Russell and Sainz.

Lap 16: George Russell comes in, but Mercedes hesitated a bit before rejoining the action in eighth.

Lap 14: Alpine makes a fuss over Gasly’s stop and the Frenchman is now 13th after being seventh.

Lap 14: Many stops are now being caused as Red Bull and Alpine bring in Pérez and Ocon respectively.

Lap 12: In an attempt to pass Russell for second, Norris uses his DRS. Meanwhile, Hamilton has lost DRS from him and will be under pressure from the two Ferraris behind him.

Lap 9: McLaren’s Oscar Piastri pushes Esteban Ocon’s Alpine for eighth place and finally takes it.

Lap 7: Verstappen pulls away from George Russell in second. Norris is third and Hamilton is behind him in fourth.

Lap 4: Charles Leclerc has been overtaken by his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz. Sainz is currently fifth while Leclerc is sixth.

Lap 3: George Russell has been passed by Redbull’s Max Verstappen. The Dutchman managed to pass with the help of DRS and is moving away.

Lap 2: Lando Norris has fallen to third place and Verstappen maintains his second place.

Lano Norris comes out at a fast pace but George Russell comes out from the outside and takes the lead. Incredible move by the Mercedes driver!

There are several famous people watching in Barcelona and one of them is former Spanish defender Gerard Piqué.

Lando Norris’s hopes of taking victory from pole were dashed with five laps remaining in the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, but he remains optimistic today.

I’m thinking about the race, the (qualifying) lap was a great lap and I don’t think I’ll come out of a Saturday, with pole or not, like I did because I felt very good. I’m excited to get started today and see if we can keep it up.

Lewis Hamilton finished third after overtaking teammate George Russell and says Mercedes’ return to the front of the grid was getting closer. He told Sky Sports:

“It has taken a long time to arrive as a team.

“For us to be in this position where we got a third and a fourth and we’re starting to be more consistent in that area is huge.

Of course, Carlos Sainz will be competing at home this afternoon and has received a magnificent welcome, to say the least…

Lando Norris will start from the front after achieving his second pole position of his F1 career, after overtaking Max Verstappen in qualifying.

He got the first victory of his career in Miami in May… can he get the second today?
