Lisandro Martínez and Marcus Rashford have returned to training at Carrington ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that Martínez was aiming to be in the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 and was hoping to get some minutes under his belt in the three remaining Premier League games, possibly as soon as like Arsenal.

Martínez has made just 11 appearances this season. He needed a second operation on a broken metatarsal, suffered a knee ligament injury against West Ham four games after his return in February, and then suffered a calf strain in training after returning for a game against Brentford in March.

The former Ajax player’s absence has been felt even more acutely because Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala have also been absent.

Evans returned to Crystal Palace on Monday alongside emergency centre-back Casemiro, but it didn’t go well and United suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

Ten Hag hopes Varane or Maguire can return in time to play alongside Martinez against City at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Rashford has not played since limping out of the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry, missing the last three matches against Sheffield United, Burnley and Palace.

The English forward is in the race to play the 400th game of his career for United against Arsenal, after making his Premier League debut and scoring two goals against the Gunners in 2016.
