Shocking CCTV has emerged of a bus crashing into a shop, forcing shocked bystanders to free the occupants.
The driver of metro service 914 had just turned left onto Waterloo Road at Greenacre, in Sydney’s southwest, shortly before 8am on Tuesday.
As he continued his sharp left turn, he lost control and veered onto the trail, crashing into the popular Sugar House dessert bar.
Tradies and staff from nearby businesses rushed to help free the driver and a female passenger by pulling on the door.
Moments before the accident, the bus driver turned left at a busy intersection in Greenacre.
The impact broke the vehicle’s windshield and severely damaged the exterior of the store.
The bus driver, 45, was unharmed but in a state of shock. The police help him with their investigations.
He and a 37-year-old woman were the only people on board, witnesses said. 9News.
The passenger, who suffered a nosebleed, was taken to Bankstown Hospital for observation.
Sugar House was closed at the time of the accident.
“Normally this is a very congested trail with foot traffic,” neighbor Freddy Nagz wrote on Facebook.
The moment of impact left the bus with a shattered windshield and the lone passenger with a nosebleed.
Witness Siba Elturk said it was lucky no one died.
‘Imagine, (if) you were open this morning and people were sitting outside having breakfast.’ she said.
Sugar House withstood the full force of the collision with the front glass broken and sections of its brick wall knocked down.
Work to repair the front of the store could take days and the owners are hopeful it will be covered by insurance.
In the meantime, they will lose revenue from not being able to operate, which could cost them thousands of dollars.
The dessert bar will have to remain closed (pictured) while the broken glass and crumbling bricks are fixed, which could take a while.
