The GSK boss dismissed concerns that British executives are underpaid compared to American ones.

As a pay revolt at Smith & Nephew reignited debate over boardroom excesses, GSK director Emma Walmsley said she was paid “very well” by the pharmaceutical giant.

Walmsley, who earned £12.7m in 2023, said he felt “really good” about his ability to retain talent.

Smith & Nephew is the latest company to be hit by a shareholder revolt over big-name pay after discontent at AstraZeneca, Ocado and the London Stock Exchange Group.

GSK said it expects profits to rise between 9 percent and 11 percent this year, up from previous guidance of between 7 percent and 10 percent, after sales hit £7.4 billion. in the first three months of 2024, 10 percent more than compared to last year. the same period of 2023.

Walmsley said: “We have strengthened growth prospects across all of our key therapeutic areas.” Share rose 1.9 per cent, or 32p, to 1,705p.
