Sonic is dead and you must find out whose machinations are up to mischief here.
It’s actually just an April Fool’s joke – but a very successful one: Sega is open Steam with The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog released a free game with about two to three hours of gameplay. In this one they literally murder one of their most famous heroes, sonic.
Your task is, in the style of a visual novel to solve the mystery of the death of the blue hedgehog on board the Mirage Express together with Sonic’s friends. You can get a first impression of this with the trailer:

Story premise: The story begins with Amy Rose’s birthday. To celebrate, she invited her friends to a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express. When Sonic the Hedgehog falls victim to the game, the party guests try to solve the mystery together. But is that all? Maybe there is more to it than a harmless game?!
Gameplay: You conduct dialogues, solve puzzles, jump through typical Sonic minigames and click through hand-painted backgrounds with simple, but lovingly animated characters from the Sonic universe.
The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is free to download on Steam.
And even if Sega remains vague here, Sonic is of course not finished as a hero, let alone as a brand for the future.
This game isn’t from Sonic Team, but everything can be canon in your head!

However, it is a playable one april fools the elaborate kind. Something like that is rarely presented to the players.
