President Joe Biden will undergo his long-awaited physical as concerns grow about the 81-year-old’s health and fitness for a second term.

The White House has faced persistent questions about when Biden, the oldest president in history, would receive his annual test before the November 2024 election.

And on Wednesday morning he made the unscheduled trip to present a health certificate ahead of his likely rematch with Donald Trump.

“I’m going to Walter Reed to get a physical,” Biden told reporters as he crossed the South Lawn toward Marine One. The results will be released later Wednesday.

Polls show that most Americans believe he is too old to run for president again and that he does not have the mental acuity for a second term, which would end when he is 86.

White House physician Kevin O’Connor said Biden’s gait “remains stiff” during his exam in February last year, but called him “healthy” and “vigorous.”

Biden spends 45 minutes doing balance exercises with his physical therapist every morning to combat walking.

His staff is also trying to combat slips and falls, and another trip will have disastrous consequences for his chances in 2024.

There was also a detailed “neurological examination” that found nothing “consistent with any central or cerebellar neurological disorder.”

“He did not demonstrate any motor weakness, but a subtle difference in the sensation of heat/cold could be caused,” the 2023 letter adds.

Biden did not undergo a colonoscopy like last year’s checkup, so he would not need to be sedated and temporarily hand over power to Vice President Kamala Harris while she is in Germany for the Munich Security Conference.
