An eight-month-old baby, Jannah Abughazaleh, tragically died after her parents allegedly placed her in boiling water and did not seek medical attention for her severe burns. Jannah’s parents, Hussein Abughazaleh and Kristina Siedlecki, initially claimed that the girl’s injuries were from a bath she had taken days earlier.
However, researchers revealed that the couple reportedly admitted to witnessing Jannah’s burns worsen over several days without seeking medical treatment, leaving her in prolonged pain. Authorities confirmed that Jannah succumbed to her injuries days after the alleged incident. Both parents have since been arrested and charged with murder.
This heartbreaking case adds to another tragedy in Texas, where Yanira Prado, 22, faces capital murder charges after a newborn baby was found dead in her bathroom. The Odessa Police Department discovered the baby on October 9 after responding to a call at Prado’s house.
Investigators ordered an autopsy, which revealed that the baby had been born alive but asphyxiated “with amniotic fluid, other fluids, and foreign fibers.” Prado is accused of “knowingly and intentionally” drowning the child, according to police.
Prado, who was transferred to the Medical Center Hospital to be examined after the incident, stated that she was unaware of her pregnancy. In a statement to authorities, she said she believed she was experiencing a bowel movement when she gave birth. said local NBC affiliate KCRA.
Prado admitted to using nail clippers to cut the umbilical cord, but said he became dizzy and couldn’t get out of the bathroom. “The baby didn’t cry or make any noise.” Prado told the police, He added that he panicked and sent a text message to another person in the house asking for help instead of seeking immediate medical assistance.
Reports revealed that no one in the house knew Prado was pregnant, although one person recalled asking her about the lack of feminine hygiene products in the trash. Prado was arrested “without incident” last Friday and is being held at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on $1 million bond.
He faces charges of capital murder, tampering with evidence and an immigration-related crime. Both cases highlight appalling failures to protect vulnerable children, sparking widespread outrage and highlighting the devastating consequences of neglect and abuse. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths while seeking justice for both babies.
