7-Eleven, Logan, Brisbane: How a sock and string proved vital when a pregnant mother-to-be suddenly gave birth in a service station car park

A pregnant mother-to-be has given birth to a baby in the car park of a Queensland service station with the help of a sock and a shoelace.

Sharyn Daley was working at the Cheap as Chips discount store in Logan, Brisbane, on Friday when a man ran in shouting “that a lady is about to have a baby”, she said.

The assistant store manager grabbed a towel from a shelf and ran out to help the woman who was in her car parked at the neighboring 7-Eleven servo.

It is understood the baby’s head was already crowning and the birth ended seconds after Ms Daley arrived on the scene.

Sharyn Daley (pictured) was working her normal shift at Cheap as Chips in Logan, southeast Queensland, on Friday when a man ran in in a panic shouting “a lady is about to have a baby”.

‘(The only thing I could think about was) just surviving. Someone needed help. “So you just hustle and do what you can and instincts take over,” Ms Daley said. 7news.

He said the baby didn’t look well when he was born.

“It was discolored, so I had to stimulate it, rub it and pat it on the back.” Mrs. Daley said courier mail.

“A few minutes went by and he started moving better and he was squeezing my finger hard and his color came back.”

After returning the baby to his mother, Daley took off his right shoe and tied the shoelace around the umbilical cord.

She then took off the sock and placed the placenta inside, keeping it close to the baby.

The quickly thinking assistant store manager grabbed a towel from a rack and ran toward the woman who was in her car parked in the neighboring parking lot of the 7-Eleven (pictured).

An ambulance arrived and took the family to the hospital before Daley had a chance to ask their names.

She hopes to meet the family to give them a special baby basket and said the whole experience felt like something out of a movie.

“I’d love to know who they are, give Bub a hug and let Mom know I’m so proud of her,” Mrs. Daley said.

‘We have a crib, changing table, mattress and a lovely large basket to help them get started.

“We are trying to look for them, I would love to find them again.”
