MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 700 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have been selected for the recruitment process of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Police Force ), according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
In a statement released Thursday, the DILG said a total of 693 candidates from the MNLF and MILF recently began the selection process – of which 44 underwent physical agility tests, while 649 took psychological exams and psychiatric.
He added that the recruitment was based on National Police Commission Resolution No. 2023-0380, which approved the recommendation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to allocate 400 places in its recruitment to former members of the MILF and the MNLF.
“The entry of former MILF and MNLF members into the PNP is governed by Republic Act 11054 or the BARMM Organic Law, which was enacted after the signing of a peace agreement between the government and the MILF” , explained the DILG.
On August 11, 102 members of the MILF and MNLF successfully passed the first recruitment process of the BARMM police force and were sworn in as new police officers. Of this figure, 52 came from the MILF and 50 from the MNLF.
The PNP said the new members came from the initial 7,145 candidates who passed the special eligibility examination held in Cotabato and Lamitan last May 29.
