Today more people are conscious of their appearance due to heightened awareness about their health and well-being. Some are affected by peer pressure, while others try to emulate the people they follow or idolize, like celebrities and athletes.

For example, more people are removing unwanted hair from their bodies. As a result, many feel they look better, more comfortable, and more confident without body hair. Thus, the health and beauty industry offers various products and methods to remove body hair. Continue reading to learn the various hair removal solutions available.

Options for hair removal

There are several solutions and treatments for hair removal. Some people are content with shaving, while others use tweezers to remove hair, especially on the eyebrows, chin, and armpits. Aside from the manual methods, you can find solutions that use machines, creams, wax, sugar, etc.

1. Electrolysis

This process uses shortwave radio frequency distributed through the fine needle inserted directly into the hair follicle. The objective of the process is to destroy the hair follicle to prevent new hair from growing. Only a licensed dermatologist or a certified electrologist should undertake this hair removal procedure.

2. Laser hair removal

Like electrolysis, laser hair removal eliminates unwanted body hair in the long term. It also targets the hair follicles. The procedure can be done anywhere in the body except around the eye area. Laser hair removal is more effective on people with dark hair with light skin tones because it is easier to distinguish the color of the hair and the skin.

The treatment requires several sessions, similar to electrolysis. The doctor usually schedules a session four weeks apart. A full treatment can take about four to five months.

2. Prescription creams

If you are hesitant about electrolysis and laser hair removal, your doctor may prescribe a cream called eflornithine. It effectively removes unwanted hair on women’s faces, typically under the chin and around the lips. Eflornithine works by blocking the enzymes that promote hair growth. You apply it twice a day for one month. The effect lasts for about eight weeks.

4. Professional waxing and tweezing

If you need to remove hair from small areas of your body, you should go to a certified aesthetician for professional waxing and tweezing service. Both procedures will pull the hair directly from the root, so it could take two to eight weeks before the hair grows back.

5. Chemical depilation

For a quick and temporary solution, you can also use chemical depilation using a gel or cream you can buy from the pharmacy. The cream works by weakening the hair’s keratin, causing the hair to fall out. It does not reach the hair follicles, so it might only take two weeks for you to enjoy the results.

It is normal to have body hair unless you have a medical condition. Take time to think about which method to use. While some methods only last a few weeks, some hair removal solutions can give long-lasting results. You should talk to your dermatologist or doctor about the best option.
