3.4 magnitude earthquake hits Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory

A small town in the central Northern Territory has been hit by an earthquake.

The magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck just northeast of Tennant Creek at around 10.22am ACST on Tuesday.

Geoscience Australia recorded that the earthquake originated at a depth of six kilometres.

Earthquakes below magnitude 3.5 are often not felt, so Tennant Creek’s 3,000 residents may not have noticed the tremors.
