Rebecca decided to lose weight and change her lifestyle after suffering from a bad mood, poor sleep patterns and diet, despite going vegan on January 1 this year.

She snapped vegan sausage rolls and chips during the day before enjoying fried dinners – with double portions she needed.

She told FEMAIL: ‘My evenings consisted of many snacks and large takeaways every weekend. But now I stick with oats, protein shakes, avocados, and smaller portions. ‘

TYPICAL DAILY FOOD NOW

Breakfast – 2 slices of toast with half an avocado (instead of butter) or a bowl of overnight oats with berries and a protein shake

Lunch – seasoned vegan chicken or vegan burger with a small sweet or regular potato and vegetables or salad

Dinner – vegan minced meat with fresh tomatoes and herbs with a small portion of rice followed by a bowl of Coco Pops to stop the sweet cravings

Evening snack (around 7pm) – soy yogurt and berries and a few cubes of dark chocolate

TYPICAL TRAINING NOW

Monday – Legs / Under – Squats, Split Squats, Lunges, Deadlifts

Tuesday – Arms / Top – bicep curls, shoulder press, side elevations, tricep extensions, upward row

Wednesday – Legs / Lower – reverse lunges, split squats, reverse lunge, hip thrusts

Thursday – Rest day

Friday – Arms / Up – hammer curls, bent over row, forearm up, ankle arm up, chest pressure

Saturday – Same as Wednesday

Sunday – Rest

However, she still has ‘off-plan’ meals and drinks a can of coke a day and also eats a daily bowl of Coco-Pops to stop her sweet cravings.

She said, “When I started out, I was very unhappy with how I looked and felt and with bad motivation everywhere, I was in pretty bad mood, lacked confidence and self-esteem and had a really bad sleep pattern.

“I snapped my alarms and felt tired all day and took a nap whenever I could – I was unhappy because my mood was bad and I was unsuitable.

“But now I feel great and I feel strong. I have tons of energy and my mental health has improved drastically! I go to sleep every day from 10 PM to 6:30 AM and wake up feeling like I can start the day with a smile on my face. ‘

A vegetarian since she was 11, Rebecca treats herself to a big healthy breakfast on Sunday with grilled mushrooms, sausages and tomatoes with beans and toast, then makes a healthy Sunday roast dinner.

She said, “When I’m hungry between meals, I have a rice cake with salt and vinegar, or a few carrots with a little hummus, or a bar that’s low in carbs and low in sugar.

“I have off-plan meals, usually one every two or three weeks, depending on progress, and I choose a pizza with fries with ice cream to finish or something Mexican. However, I fully adhered to my plan for the first seven weeks.

“I prepare all my food on Sunday and Wednesday evenings to stop snacking while cooking, but I also drink about six liters of water a day and a can of diet coke.”

Rebecca follows a daily workout routine and adheres to her strict regimen set up by her online coach, but says it’s her progress photos that inspire her to keep going.

After deciding to change her lifestyle, Rebecca began working with online coach Paige Rebecca on February 12.

Paige, who works as an online coach and competition bikini athlete, emails Rebecca a workout and food plan – broken down into how many calories / gram of fat, carbohydrates and protein she should be eating.

She also works her abs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and takes a walk every day – which she follows on the Strava app.

“I found the second and third weeks of closure very difficult and tried to get into a routine not only for training but also for my mindset and mental health,” said Rebecca.

Rebecca uses food to structure her daily fitness routine - she does her weights for breakfast, walks for lunch, and works her abs for dinner.

“The exercise has helped me tremendously to get through lockdown mentally. Of course, I wake up around 6:30 AM and get dressed in my gym clothes, ready to workout.

“I’ve printed every day’s workouts and how many repetitions I have to do each – I stick that day’s workout schedule on my bulletin board and start training in front of a mirror. After my workout, I take a shower and get dressed for the day. ‘

She has a huge following on social media and shares her tips, tricks and advice with people who want to lose weight during lockdown.

Rebecca said some days are harder than others to stick to her plan, but she uses her progress photos and determination to continue.

She said, “On the days when I don’t feel like exercising, I always say to myself, ‘If you do it, then it’s done’, and ‘If you don’t want to exercise, just work’ – because they are the most rewarding workouts.

“The motivation for me is to know that I feel good every day, that I feel mentally strong and that I will look great when the lockout is over and we can go.”

Rebecca admitted that she always found it difficult to control her weight and regularly fluctuated between size 12 and size 14.

She said, “I was never happy. I would always compare myself to my slimmer friends and never felt good.

“I found it especially difficult when I was in my 20s and struggled with the pressure to look a certain way. I was watching social media and it would take me down. So I would eat comfort, making it just a downward spiral to feel depressed about how I looked.

“As soon as I stopped thinking about weight loss and exercise and was planned every week by my coach, I realized it’s just a matter of trusting yourself and the process of eating right and exercising more.”

“Exercise and weight loss made me feel better mentally through the endorphins, but the biggest achievement is that I never thought I would be one of those girls who could look good.

“I hope to continue my progress and participate in a bikini bodybuilding competition. It was never my goal to start with, but I fell in love with feeling good and pushing myself and the limits I set myself.

“I never thought I could reach this body or this work ethic.”

“This is just the beginning of my new lifestyle and I am curious how far I can take it. I fall in love with myself and my body more and more every day. ‘
